The El Camino Real High School Dance Guard is a co-curricular program that meets 6th period and after school during the regular school day, with two evening rehearsals per week (this is subject to change). The team receives P.E. credit for being part of the team during 9th and 10th grade, and they may receive Fine Arts credit when they reach 11th and 12th. Graduating seniors with four full consecutive years (or more) will receive a graduation chord.
Our Dance Guard is a team of performers who perform choreographed dances and routines with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of our marching band. We use various equipment including flags, rifles, and sabres, along with other props. Our team members perform using their equipment (flag, rifle, sabre, prop, etc.), and emotional connections (facial expressions and dance) to the audience to enhance the meaning and feeling of their show. Most Color Guard groups are of mixed gender - this is a sport for anyone, regardless of gender identity!
